Pure Gelato have steadily grown their delicious empire over the years and Spark have been there every step of the way. Managing the entire marketing and branding strategy, we have always looked at blending innovation and rich content into their online presence. In the last 5 years, our focus has been using design and technology to take the brand into the future while maintaining the brand identity that Pure Gelato is known and loved for.

Brand Strategy – New Logo

Operating now for more than 20 years, Pure Gelato’s brand needed to keep relevant and contemporary. Spark initiated the move in 2017 to refresh the company logo, giving it renewed energy without losing its visual identity. Through clever design changes, the logo makeover turned out a success! Now seen on the Pure Gelato website and all their marketing assets, the new logo gives a rejuvenated, modern look that is still easily recognisable and relatable to the customers.

Web Strategy – Pure Gelato

With the launch of their new website for 2014/15, we focused on increasing and improving customer experience and user engagement. To achieve this we first of all introduced a dietary analyser that visitors can use to make their gelato orders based on a set of clever dietary filters. Google Maps is then utilised for a delivery search based on their postcode!

The website also features an e-commerce solution for customised cake orders. Customers can easily build their favourite cake through a well-designed and easy to use ordering process. Gift vouchers and a wide variety of gelato related items are also available to purchase online. All of this is possible through an order management and job ticketing system that Spark integrated into the main website.

2017/18 saw more launches of new website pages with richer content, better navigation and beautiful design to match the more modern feel of the new Pure Gelato logo.

Web Strategy – Gelato Sales

The consistent growth year after year has lead Pure Gelato to create a division within its business to better deal with different segments of the market. We have created an entire website dedicated to their wholesale division, answering the needs of restaurants, cafes and hotels. An ordering app has also been developed for added convenience to the wholesale partners.

Web Strategy – Gelato Cart Hire

With a growing market for event and functions hire, a dedicated Gelato Cart Hire website has been launched to specifically service the corporate event and wedding markets.

Promotions & Customer Communication

Spark supports Pure Gelato both in their online and offline marketing efforts. Promo announcements through email marketing, in-store stickers and web banners ensure effective, timely and consistent communication in all consumer touchpoints. These are invaluable in keeping Pure Gelato and their offerings in the top of their customer’s minds.

App Development – Retail & Wholesale

A culmination of our innovative streak for Pure Gelato in 2014 was the build of an Android and iOS app mirroring the desktop online ordering facility. The app now delivers over 50% of their online orders! Gelato on the Go anyone?

The Spark-designed website was first launched in 2013 and updated with all new features in 2014. Spark rebuilt the website again in 2015 to reflect the expanded range of products and deliver a richer and more interactive user experience.

Packaging and Point of Sale

The Spark team takes great pride in supporting Preference Floors in designing their packaging and point-of-sale material. Banners for exhibitions and floor sample stands complete the in-store experience for the end user, creating a strong selling platform for the retailer and ultimately a solid brand foundation for Preference Floors.

Preference Floors aim to be the market leaders in timber and bamboo flooring and Spark continues to be a key ingredient to this strategy. It’s not very often we get an objective in a client brief that says “provide better access to vital treatment.” But when we do, we respond and deliver. It was in 2013 when the Haematology Clinical Research Network (HCRN) first approached us looking for a solution to increase clinical trial referrals.

The HCRN were faced with various challenges in recruiting patients including the limited site locations as well as the haematologists’ lack of knowledge of current trials. Moreover, most haematologists didn’t refer patients because the process was cumbersome and time consuming.

SOLUTION

When it comes to health services, communication is key. To streamline communication and access treatments, the HCRN selected Spark to develop a mobile app to get clinical trial information to the fingertips of clinicians and patients.

Since the launch of the first app in 2013, there has been a 300% increase in cross-referrals growing from a rate of 1-3/ month to ~15+ per month. The overwhelming consumer acceptance is mostly credited to the simplicity and usability of the app, allowing the user to easily navigate through the existing clinical trials. We have since developed 19 apps under the ClinTrial name – and more in the pipeline – being used for a range of various disciplines both nationally and internationally. The ultimate reward though is knowing more patients are now able to access clinical trials and access to life-saving research treatments. Now that’s what we call a success!

The app won the prestigious Cancer Institute Premier’s Award for Outstanding Cancer Research for its role in saving lives.


Imagine communication as the vital flow of energy linking each and every part of our global society. It makes things happen, it keeps things moving, it connects people. You know that when it comes to health services, that flow of communication is key. At Spark, we are always just a call or an email away so when NSW Health asked for our help, we were there in a heartbeat!

To revolutionise and streamline communication and access to vital treatment, the HCRN selected us to develop a smartphone app to connect those dots. The first of its kind, our app is designed to get clinical trial information to the fingertips of clinicians and patients.

It all started when the Haematology Clinical Research Network (HCRN) started looking into reasons why patients with haematological cancers were not being referred to clinical trials. They discovered that patients did not want to travel, that haematologists did not want to refer patients to other hospitals and, most importantly, that referring patients was cumbersome and time consuming.

Using existing collaboration amongst NSW haematologists, our cross-referral rate has gone from 1-3/ month to ~15+ per month and has given countless patients access to quality trials. Now we call that a success!

We have since developed thirteen different apps under the ClinTrial name. They are all based around the smart flow of digital information through existing networks between medical specialists, cancer trial studies and patients. We connect the dots and make energy flow.

The Spark team created the branding and celebration strategy for Pure Gelato’s 21st birthday celebration in 2015. Items included point of sale material, a new website for competition entries, printing scratch cards and promoting the campaign which has been executed in ACT and NSW.
